Polymetals

Main content

Recently a new synthetic route has been developed for the preparation of a high molecular weight, linear poly(di-n-alkylstannane)s, free from the cyclic oligomeric impurities formed in certain previous synthetic methods. We demonstrated that selected polystannane derivatives also exhibits rapid charge transport. This particular has the added advantages for device applications that it is liquid crystalline at room temperature, can be readily aligned by shearing and is thermally stable up to 250 °C under nitrogen. The mobilities obtained for this material in the solid and liquid crystalline phases are comparable with those previously reported for analogous polysilane and polygermane compounds. Current research focuses on more complex metal-atom containing (co-)polymers.
